So we’re 70 games into the season and last nights Twins v Astros game made me want to do some stat checking. In last nights game, the Twins hit 4 HRs. They went from having the 2nd least amount of HRs in the majors last year, to the 11th most this year. But last years argument was that they were still scoring runs, small ball was still producing. Last year the Twins averaged 5.09 runs per game with 9.64 hits (both were 4th best in the majors). This year the Twins are scoring fewer runs at 4.86 per game and slightly fewer hits at 9.33. What does all this mean? I don’t know, don’t care, lost interest…

I had a rather entertaining conversation with a friend from high school today regarding my plans for Monday night.

me: so tomorrow night i’m going to the twins game with a friend of the girl that [name removed] is seeing
i met her on our party bus last weekend. this girl asked me a question and I had no idea how to respond to it
“I’m I overwhelming you?”

Friend: like was she physically attacking you when she was asking you this? or did she actually believe she was mentally dominating you?

me: there was nothing physical happening
so i had no idea what she was referring to
i have a feeling I’m going to be regretting this by the 4th inning tomorrow

Friend: there are decent odds of that yes

me: she is meeting me at the dome after practice….skating practice….figure skating practice…

Friend: oh jesus

me: why is a 27 year old practicing figure skating?

Friend: i’m not sure why that scares me but it does
that’s a great question
maybe she’s in the special olympics
which would be overwhelming

me: oh crap
like one her legs is fake?
that would require a lot of practice

Friend: that would
i want you to go and purchase her some food item…it can be a big hotdog or a large beer. anything that is sizeable
and as she’s eating it ask her if she finds it overwhelming

me: oh god
that made me laugh pretty loud

Well I beat theFlash to the AL Preview again this year. Last year, the Twins performed much better than I and everybody else had expected. Instincts tell me that this year, as many people are picking them to win the central, the smart pick would be for them to disappoint. But, I’m going to stay positive in 2009. I need to remember, these are the Brewers that I grew up with, the Twins are a winning franchise. Last year we learned that we have a very very solid starting rotation. I like Breslow in the middle. We are still going to miss Crazy Arm Pat Neshek, but there still Twitch Joe Nathan to take over the 9th. At the plate, we are going to struggle if Mauer isn’t in the line-up. There’s no one that can replace his consistent bat and 0.413 OBP. We need to hope that everyone stays health, Span and Casilla play ‘09 like ‘08, Punto regains his ‘07 form, and Delmon doesn’t get the nickname DP for all the double-plays that he’ll hit into.

Surprise Twin for ‘09: Boof Bonser, I’m hoping that instead of being in-shape, he has a few more Denny’s Gand Slam breakfasts and adds on the pounds during his 6-7 month injury timeout. He was a much more dominating pitcher when he had the added weight, like Kenny Powers. Come to think of it, Boof Bonser could be the real life Kenny Powers. If you have no idea who Kenny Powers is, you need to watch Eastbound & Down, it’s hilarious. Come on Boof, we need you for the playoffs!

AL Cy Young: Matt Garza

And some bonus NL Preview: Brewers will suck again and I won’t have to listen to all my homer bandwagon friends talk about the stupid team to the east.

Yankees
Twins 87-75
Red Sox
Indians
Tampa Bay
White Sox
LA Angels
Detroit
Toronto
Kansas City
Oakland
Texas
Seattle
Baltimore
